Dang 26 July 2010: Shanta Chaudhary, Chairperson of
the Parliamentary Committee for Natural Resources and Means urged that Forest
Minister Deepak Bohora has the direct involvement in the massive deforestation.
Since few months we are being up to date about the news and pictures of
deforestation and causing huge environmental degradation to the country's
biodiversity. Depart of Forests including the District Forest Officer and
representatives of the Community Forest Users Group are also equally involved
in it.
Speaking at a press meet organized by Press Chautari
in Ghorahi of Dang on Monday, Chaudhary said that government officials are
taking bribes and turning a blind eye to massive deforestation going on in many
parts of the country at the moment. Adding more she said Minister Bohora is
giving political protection and immunity to people involved in illegal cutting
of trees.
She, however, informed that the government is
looking for a long term solution to curb deforestation and will soon introduce
appropriate policies to address the issue.
It must be noted here that some time ago the
government had taken action against about a dozen District Forest Officers and
forest officials for their involvement in illegal felling of the trees in many
districts.
