Kathmandu 30 July 2010: In the mid of monsoon, in spite of heavy rain
on Thursday, City hall in the capital was full of people. The program was an
interaction entitled 'National Consensus for Peace and Constitution' organised
by UML-affiliated Youth Association Nepal.
Speaking in the program CPN (UML)
chairman Jhala Nath Khanal urged Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Nepali
Congress vice president Ram Chandra Poudel to withdraw their candidacies to
create ground for national consensus. He requested not to indulge into the game
of 301.
Adding more Khanal said the UML was ready to support
any candidate if it led to national consensus which is a prerequisite for ensuring
peace and timely constitution.
He said putting together a coalition of majority
would be a useless exercise since this would just be the repetition of the
failed governments as previous two lead by Puspha Kamal Dahal and Caretaker PM
Madav Kumar Nepal. "The Maoists and the Nepali Congress should make some
sacrifice for the sake of consensus," he said.
Speaking at the same programme, Maoist vice chairman
Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that his party was in favour of national consensus,
but it was not ready to accept the "one Madhes Pradesh" as demanded
by the Madhesi parties. The clear concept was drafted by the meeting at the
recidance of Puspha Kamal Dahal , Naya Bazar.
Nepali Congress vice president Gopal Man Shrestha
said the most urgent task at the moment is to conclude the prime ministerial
election. Changing the system (to revive the consensus system through
constitution amendment), as demanded by the UML, is not possible right now.
Similarly, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum chairman Upendra
Yadav said consensus could be built by completing the remaining tasks of the
peace process and by create ground for fulfilling the issues raised by
different sections including Madhesis.
