Julu 2010: 'Bikini killer' 'international serial killer' allies Charles
Gurumukh Sobhraj has been slapped life sentence to the jail. The Supreme Court
(SC) today, proved him culprit for murdering an American backpacker at
Kathmandu in 1975.
Announcing the verdict, a division bench of Justices
Ram Kumar Prasad Shah and Gauri Dhakal upheld the 20-year imprisonment slapped
by the lower courts today.
He was
charged for travelling in false passport too.Sobhraj was born by Indian parents in France. However, the French national has been pleading
that he did not visit Nepal in 1975 and was not involved in any murder.
The 66-yr old Frenchman was arrested in 2003 from one
of the casinos in Kathmandu. The apex court said that Sobhraj was convicted on
the basis of circumstantial evidences.
In the premises
of SC, his 22 years old wife Nekita Biswas said, " SC has no right to
charge to charge him".
The Patan Appellate Court has also convicted him of
passport forgery and entering Nepal with fake passport of Henircus Bintanja who
was killed in Thailand.
He moved the apex court in 2006 challenging the
lower courts' verdict.
